rejuva: skin clinic is an aesthetic clinic run by Dr K Webb. Dr Webb offers a range of wrinkle reducing treatments, including injections involving the use of Botulinum toxin and Dermal fillers. She uses the leading brand Botox which is used to relax wrinkles in the upper half of the face. Dermal fillers plump areas of lost volume in the lower half of the face; such as nose-to-mouth lines. Dr Webb is a fully qualified Doctor who has worked in the NHS for 5 years, trained in aesthetic procedures. She very much believes in using a patient centred holistic professional approach to anti-ageing treatments.
As we age, wrinkles are part of the process. Wrinkles caused by muscle contraction such as frown lines, forehead lines and crows' feet, and these dynamic lines can be improved by Botox treatment. These are the areas she is trained to target.
Botulinum A Toxin is a purified protein that temporarily relaxes the muscles by targeting and blocking the acetylcholine receptor at motor nerve ending. Botox usually takes effect 24-72 hours after injection, with maximum effect at about 1 to 2 weeks. The effects generally last for approximately 3-4 months. When injected into the muscles that are responsible for expression wrinkles, it gives the face a more relaxed and smoother appearance. Botox does not remove wrinkles which are permanently engraved in the skin, regardless of muscle movement, although it may soften them.
The use of Botox is contraindicated in people with neuromuscular disorders such as myasthenia gravis, those who are taking certain muscle relaxants and antibiotics such as aminoglycosides, pregnant or breast feeding women.
Side-effects: most side-effects are caused by needle trauma, or more than the required muscle relaxing effect at the site of infection. The local effects include: bleeding, bruising, infection, pain, tingling, redness, swelling and sometimes a headache, this usually resolves within the first week of treatment. In very rare cases, clients can experience a temporary droop of the eyelid, dry eyes or double vision. Allergic reactions are extremely rare.
Dermal filler replaces lost volume and treats static facial lines by replenishing the natural hyaluronic acid content of the skin. Juvederm which is the product I will be using contains Hyaluronic acid -a molecule that is found in the human body. The result is that a natural smooth look that can last 6 to 12 months.
Common side-effects are bruising and swelling at the site if injection. Most side- effects are related to the action of injecting the skin, not the product itself. These include: redness, minor swelling, itching, tenderness around injection site and potential lumps in the treated area. These can be reduced by massage. Only 1 in 20,000 treatments result in an allergic reaction and very rarely a risk of vascular necrosis which can be reversed often by another injection.
